Fence calculator

Build a material and cost estimate.

Enter one or more connected fence runs. The calculator rounds each run separately so corners do not hide partial sections.

Core formulaΣ ceil(each run ÷ spacing)

Open layouts add one endpoint. Closed layouts reuse the first post. Each gate adds two dedicated posts.

How this estimate works

  • 48 ft ÷ 8 ft = 6 sections
  • 6 sections + 1 endpoint = 7 posts
  • Concrete uses cylindrical hole volume and the selected bag yield.

Verified by server calculator

Planning estimate only. Soil, frost line, terrain, gate dimensions, local code, and product specifications can change final quantities.

What the estimate includes

Each comma-separated length is treated as its own run, then rounded up to the next full section. This matters at corners: combining all sides before rounding can underestimate materials.

Concrete calculation

The calculator models each post hole as a cylinder: π × radius² × depth. Total volume is divided by the bag yield and rounded up. The default 0.45 ft³ is only an example; always use the yield printed on the concrete product.

Before ordering

Confirm property lines, buried services, permits, frost depth, post and gate specifications, and actual board coverage. The result is a transparent planning estimate, not engineering advice.
